STATIC SPACE
All it takes is a simple connection to change our lives.
Synopsis
Jamie lives a quiet life making furniture in her Indiana barn. 250 miles above her, Col. Noa Deakins is orbiting Earth on a shuttle to clear space debris. When a ham radio glitches against all odds and brings these two women together, they find in each other's voices, a connection worth fighting for.

Origin
"Static Space" is based on Geonn Cannon's novel, "Can You Hear Me". Geonn reached out to Kate in March of 2020 and offered her the opportunity to adapt the story into a play. She finished the play in July of that year and then adapted it to an award winning short film in the fall of the same year.

Reviewers say...
"As both writer, director, and star, Kate Black-Spence carves herself out as a true cinematic triple threat. She’s utterly charming as the slightly awkward Jamie, and the chemistry she shares with Copeland accomplishes the remarkable feat of keeping an audience invested in a woman carving chairs and talking into a radio."

"Charming. Slow burn. Extraordinary, sensitive and affirming. Static Space was the [WICKED QUEER] festival’s standout to me."
